What is the Dr. Doolittle Program?
The Dr. Doolittle Program covers the cost of veterinarian expenses related to animals with serious but treatable medical conditions. Gainesville Pet Rescue staff and veterinarians determine which animals should receive Dr. Doolittle support based on Asilomar Accords.*
Dr. Doolittle funds provide support for:
● Eye, ear and upper respiratory infections
● Demodedic and sarcoptic mange
● Heartworm disease
● Injuries and deformities
● Care for neonatal puppies, kittens and nursing mothers
● Other more severe medical conditions

*The Asilomar Accords provide uniform standards, applied at shelters around the country, for classifying the health status of shelter animals. Animals are designated as healthy, treatable (rehabilitatable or manageable), or unhealthy and untreatable. The standards are directed at saving the lives of all healthy and treatable companion animals.

Meet Millie

Millie was a black lab puppy caught outside during a tropical storm. After being hit by a car, she was found in a drainage ditch that was filling with water.

GPR's Dr. Doolittle Fund allowed us to pay for the months of treatment required to save her injured leg, including a cast, and at one point, eternal fixtures. Click below to see more Dr. Doolittle Animals like Millie.
